How to Cite a Podcast in MLA 9.

Podcast citations in MLA 9 treat the episode title as the source and the podcast name as the container. The host is the "author." Here is the correct format with examples.

MLA 9 podcast citation format

Host Last, First. “Episode Title.” Podcast Name, episode #, Publisher/Network, Day Month Year, URL.

Example:

Radiolab. “The Vanishing of Harry Pace.” Radiolab, WNYC Studios, 14 June 2021, www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/radiolab/articles/vanishing-harry-pace.


Example with named host

Glass, Ira. “Fermi’s Paradox.” This American Life, episode 415, WBEZ Chicago, 22 Jan. 2010, www.thisamericanlife.org/415/fermi-s-paradox.


What to include

  • Author/Host — the podcast host or production company
  • Episode title — in quotation marks
  • Podcast name — italicised
  • Episode number — if available
  • Publisher/Network — e.g. Spotify, NPR, Gimlet Media
  • Date — Day Month Year of release
  • URL — direct link to the episode
