Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using mla-citation.com (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service. These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the Service.

02

Description of Service

mla-citation.com provides a free, browser-based MLA 9th Edition citation generator ("Tool"). The Tool allows users to create formatted academic citations for 16 source types, manage multiple bibliographies, and export Works Cited lists in various formats.

The Service is provided free of charge. No account, subscription, or payment is required to use any feature of the Service. All user data (bibliographies and source records) is stored exclusively in the user's own browser via localStorage and is never transmitted to our servers.

03

Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of others. You must not:

  • Use the Service to generate content for fraudulent, deceptive, or unlawful purposes.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically extract data from the Service.
  • Overload, disrupt, or impair the Service or its underlying infrastructure.
  • Use automated bots or scripts to access the Service in a manner that exceeds normal human usage.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or its related systems.
  • Use the Service to infringe any third party's intellectual property rights.

04

Academic Integrity

The Service is designed to assist with the formatting of citations. It is your responsibility to ensure that:

  • The source information you enter is accurate and complete.
  • You verify the generated citation against the official MLA Handbook (9th Edition) before submission.
  • Your use of citations complies with your institution's academic integrity and honesty policies.

We are not responsible for academic penalties arising from incorrect or misused citations.

05

Intellectual Property

The Service, including its design, code, text content, and guide pages, is owned by mla-citation.com and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service's content without prior written permission.

The citation output generated by the Tool (your Works Cited entries) belongs entirely to you. We claim no ownership over citations you create using the Service.

06

Third-Party Services

The autocite features of the Service make requests to third-party APIs including CrossRef, OpenLibrary, and Google Books. When you use these features, your browser sends the identifier (URL, DOI, or ISBN) you enter to these services. We are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or terms of service of these third-party APIs.

If you use the Google Docs export feature, your browser interacts directly with Google's APIs using your own Google account credentials. We do not store, access, or process your Google credentials or OAuth tokens on our servers.

07

Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

  • The citation output will be 100% accurate or complete in all cases.
  • The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
  • The autocite features will successfully retrieve metadata for any given URL, DOI, or ISBN.
  • The Service will meet your specific academic requirements.

MLA citation rules are subject to change. Always verify citations against the current edition of the MLA Handbook.

08
